Hello, Lyssa here. I recently joined the HOCR Race Committee, which is a group that collaborates around the operational and logistical details for the Head of the Charles Regatta™. I attended my first Race Committee meeting earlier this month. Similar to walking into the morning referee meeting for a regatta, there were a lot of friendly and familiar faces who share my passion for our sport and running an event that many people look forward to attending every year. Members of Race Committee work closely with the leads of the over thirty committees that each contribute to the regatta – Umpires obviously being my favorite committee. As a member of Race Committee, I’ll be working most closely with the Umpire Committee and Cyclist Committee (who I wheel-y appreciate). During our meetings, we review regatta-wide needs as well as ensure that each committee has what it needs and that we’re coordinating between committees effectively. While I’m still learning my role, I’m definitely looking forward to being a member of Race Committee and building on my understanding of the regatta and a new way to serve both the regatta and on behalf of the Umpire Committee.
