Umpire Training

Umpire Training Coursework is vital to the success of our committee while operating at the Head Of The Charles Regatta. 

For 2024, we will be assigning training in Thinkific based on the roles you will be performing. You will automatically be enrolled in the courses relevant to your role that must be completed by 11 PM Eastern Time on Sunday October 13th. We will be checking for compliance, so please do not leave it to the last moment as you will not be assigned to a station until the training has been completed.

  • New Non-USRowing licensed referees or candidates: you will receive an email from Thinkific requesting you create an account where you can access the training assigned to you.
  • USRowing licensed referees and other returning umpire volunteers: you will use your existing Referee College Thinkific account credentials and your assigned courses will be available from your dashboard.

The training consists of video lessons so captioning is available through the video setting icon in the video player. The slide text does not contain all the information so please have sound enabled so you can hear the audio. Courses will remain available through the end of the regatta and may be revisited at any point. If you don’t see the course on your dashboard, toggle the dropdown menu on the right side of the screen to “All” so completed courses are displayed.

Station Lead Umpire Preparation Call

We will host two lead umpire preparation sessions for all lead umpires on October 9th (8 AM ET, 8 PM ET). You must attend one of the sessions. 

This virtual preparation session will be for lead umpires only. This call will cover any changes since the training course was developed and any last-minute details needed before the start of racing. 

A meeting invitation with call details will be sent to all lead umpires with an agenda the week before the meeting. Please bring your questions for discussion.

Umpire Preparation Call

We will host several umpire preparation sessions for all umpires on October 10th (8 AM ET, 8 PM ET). This virtual meeting replaces the mandatory Friday evening meeting from past years. You must attend one of the sessions. 

This virtual preparation session will be for all umpires. We will cover the key information for umpires at the HOCR and answer any questions. 

A meeting invitation with call details will be sent to all umpires with an agenda the week before the meeting.
