Please pay close attention to the shuttle transportation available – we are simultaneously moving a large number of people around a very busy course on a tight schedule of racing. There will be volunteers driving shuttle vans who know their routes and locations to help get you where you need to be, but they don’t know you! So please help them out and pay attention to where you need to be and when. If you are left behind, unfortunately we cannot turn everyone around, so please don’t get left behind.
Head racing in New England means one thing above all – volatile weather! Please pack appropriately and bring layers of clothing. Standing by the side of a river all day can be chilly, even in warm weather – extra socks, hats, gloves, hand warmers, and a good jacket are all recommended. The key is layers and comfortable footwear!
Please make sure you cell phones are fully charged! If we need to be in touch with you, we’ll be communicating via mobile phone. Please make sure you’re charged and ready to go for the day.
We will have volunteer cyclists who will be picking up penalty forms and keeping you supplied with snacks over the course of racing. Lunch will be available each day for volunteers. If you have specific dietary needs, please bring what you need to take care of you!
We continue to progress the HOCR’s sustainability journey. As you have in past years, please bring your own water bottle. We are limiting plastic use and will not be providing plastic bottles. There will be water fill stations located at various points across the course. Lunch will come with aluminum cans of juice/sodas.
Boathouse access is limited, please expect bathrooms to be port-a-potties around the course.
Delivered to stations before the start of racing each day, umpires will find in their locked station bins:
- Station Binders – penalty forms, operations map, safety protocol, umpire quick guide to penalties, umpire phone list, umpire assignments
- Binoculars
- Clipboards
- Megaphone
- Backup Set of Penalty forms
The Station Lead Umpire will also pick up the following each morning at the morning briefing:
- Caution Tape (50 yds each station, each day)
- Compostable garbage bag
- Race entry list
- iPad for reporting penalties
- Regatta radio
